This project was designed by Sefton Council in order to improve the quality of the trail surface, allowing it to be used all the year round.
An increasing number of cyclists, especially in family groups, had lobbied the Authority to try to encourage a funding bid which would help them to enjoy use of the route even in bad weather.
The section that needed improving the most was from the edge of a housing area, slightly inland, to the back of the sand dunes near the beach.
The total area was in the region of 750m2.
